Your Future is Ringing
I was reading through some of my forgetten writings and ran across this. I think it aplies to life right now.
Your Future is Ringing
By Stephanie Clark
Phone is ringing
Don’t pick it up
It isn’t worth the energy
Sit and let the machine get it
It stops
You go to it
Check the caller id
No one important
You want to cut off the world
Don’t want to talk to anyone
Don’t want to see their face
Or hear their voice
Someone is IMing you
You acted happy
But you have no energy to make small talk
The conversation is ended
You feel like being secluded
But at the same time
You want that one-person with you
To tell you life will be fine
They aren’t online
They barely know you
They don’t talk to you
You want to cry
You go on with your life
You decide to forget them
But it isn’t so easy
You just can’t cut them loose
Why won’t they notice you?
You are being selfish
They have a life
But you don’t care
You long for them
They don’t know
You won’t tell them
You want to die or cry or both
The phone rings
You ignore it
It’s them
It’s your future
Are you home?

I like this poem... I've always liked poetry that seems simple at first and then ends up capturing the feeling and moment exactly.
You did a fantastic job with this piece... I'd love to read more.
